Filipe Sambado
"Três Anos de Escorpião em Touro" Tour
Filipe Sambado released a new album and invited Paleta Itinerante to work on the conceptualization, design, and programming of the tour. The goal was to incorporate the universe of the music videos into the concert and create an atmosphere that felt like the audience was in Filipe’s living room while also entering a fantasy world. The band setup included Miguel on percussion, Vera on bass, Joana on drums, and Aurora dancing and performing, with disco balls integrated into the show.
Objectives:
- Incorporate video textures and colors from the music videos into the concert without making them legible.
- Create a scenario that makes the audience feel like they are in Filipe Sambado’s living room and a fantasy world.
- Design and program a light show where lights and video are synced with sound using timecode.
Challenges:
- Building a big curtain to divide the band while ensuring it was easy and quick to install and pack for shows.
- Choosing a fabric for the curtains that was semi-transparent for video projection, light for security, and modular for different stage sizes.
- Ensuring the video projection worked as a backlight when the curtains were open and displayed projections on the curtain texture when closed.
Solutions:
- Used two backdrop stand systems with a custom steel adapter to create a modular curtain setup.
- Designed 5 curtains, each 1 meter wide and 3 meters tall, using tulle, a lightweight and transparent fabric.
- Programmed the album songs in timecode to synchronize video, lights, and audio.
- Integrated 30cm rotating disco balls controlled via DMX between the band members.
Results/Impact:
The stage, light, and video design successfully transported the audience into Filipe Sambado’s living room and fantasy world. With the use of smoke machines, the texture of the video appeared through the band and curtains in perfect sync with the lights. The disco ball moments provided a “wow” factor, making the show a standout experience.
